My favourite classroom experiment is actually one I did when I was in college.

It’s a chemical experiment to see how much energy there is inside on jelly baby. You may not know this, but a jelly baby is full of a LOT of energy, this is why you shouldn’t eat too many as they will make you fat.

This experiment burns all the energy inside a jelly baby in one go and makes a lot of fire and burns like a rocket.

Here’s a nice video showing you how they burn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=410b79CPqP0

I Like putting geolocators on birds to see where they have been! Geolocators are small devices which records where a bird has travelled by recording light level and time – it’s some quite complicated maths but the answers are worth.

Sea birds are a really cool study species as they travel thousands of kilometres, but it is very hard to observe their movements – unless we had lots of people at sea all trying to look for them, but even that’s almost impossible!
When we catch the birds again we can downloads the tracks, load it onto the computer and onto a map, and see where they go!
