      Hi!
That’s an interesting question and it took people a long time to find the right answer. We can measure how old the Earth is by dating special kinds of very old rocks. Inside these rocks there are crystals called zircon. We can use these crystals to tell how the old the rock is by measuring how much energy the crystal has lost over time.
The oldest rocks we have found are from Australia and tell us that the Earth is around four and a half billion years old.
That’s 4500,000,000 years old! Or 4500 million years old. That’s pretty old, huh?
