Well Dr.X….if that’s your real name??

Sometimes it does feel like we’re talking in different languages, but that’s because the topic we work on involves activities that aren’t common conversation to most people! And it takes time to learn this language, that’s for sure.

I regularly have to ask my computer to run scientific test on my results, and then I really do have to write in code. I have to ask the computer what to do in a way that it will understand. It’s complicated at first, but like any language, I am slowly learning! Scientists don’t talk in ‘code’ to make life harder for everyone or keep things secret. In fact, it opens up your world to a whole new range of possibilities. If you went to Spain but didn’t speak any Spanish, you wouldn’t have much fun; you couldn’t order food or drinks, or have a nice conversation with a Spanish person. But if you knew the language, think of all the things you could easily see and do!

My research is only simple, but I am sure there are plenty of top secret studies going on in the world where scientists do talk in code!
