Thanks from your winner, Ekbal

Firstly, thank you soooo much to everyone who voted for me. I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here has been a wonderful experience. It’s been pretty hectic sometimes, especially in the live chats. But they’ve definitely been my favourite. Many of the questions have been quite challenging and gave really great insights into the minds of some future scientists. I have to confess, Google came to the rescue more than once!

But that’s not a bad thing. We scientists don’t know everything! Despite what other people or the television might tell you. Being a scientist isn’t really about knowing everything anyway. It’s more about having the curiosity to go out and explore something that interests you. Be that the stars and planets, the cells in your body, nature or the natural forces that shape our planet. All scientists have this in common. We all love to discover and find out new things.

If you would like to become a scientist one day my advice would be to think about what you enjoy the most. What is it that gets you excited? From our chats and question answers, you might have realised, there is much that we don’t know about ourselves, our planet and the universe.

Believe me, there is no greater feeling than being the first in the world to ever see something. It is quite addictive. I guess that’s one reason why we do science. I hope that one day you guys discover this addiction!

Many many thanks to all the students and teachers who participated in I’m a Scientist. You guys have been truly awesome. Never stop asking questions, even when you get older. It’s only by asking that we learn new things.

Also, thanks to the fellow scientists in my group. I learnt a lot from your answers too! I’m a Scientist would not be possible without the tremendous hard work and effort put in my the moderators and organisers. Many many thanks to you all. You all deserve medals!

I’ll be encouraging all my friends at my university to sign up and get involved with future I’m a Scientist events.

Happy Sciencing!
Ekbal
