Me and my work

I study a bacterium that can eat other bacteria,

The bacteria I study are : Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus

Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus wriggle inside other bacteria and eat them, then make copies of themselves and burst out, I am learning about them so we could use them against disease causing bacteria.

Top facts about Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus

*They swim really fast! over 100 times their length per second

*They are normally found in soil or water

My Typical Day

Normally I spend my day looking after the bacteria I grow, I do this by giving them more food and changing the tubes I grow them in. Sometimes I also put my bacteria under a microscope and take videos of them!

9 am: I get into work and turn on my computer

9.30 am: I start working in the lab looking after my bacteria

10.30 am: Everyone in the lab stops for a coffee/tea/hot chocolate break

1 pm: Lunch time

2.30 pm : We have another little coffee break

5- 6pm : Leave work

6pm onwards: Go and meet friends/ swim/ relax 🙂

What I'd do with the money

I think I would make bacterial top trump cards to teach about the special skills different bacteria have
